5 Helpful Packing Tips For Traveling
Waiting until the last minute to pack can be super stressful. It can also lead to overpacking and possibly forgetting something important. I have traveled a bit in the last two years and wanted to share 5 helpful packing tips for traveling.
5 Helpful Packing Tips For Traveling
Write It Down
It may sound basic and silly but making a list ahead of time can help make packing less stressful. It can also help with creating an inventory of items you may need and other items you can check off the list.
**Packing 2-3 days before your trip helps.
Carry Your Basics
Carrying a backpack, tote, carry-on luggage, or duffle bag with you and your essentials is a great way to make sure you have what you need at your fingertips. Packing your basics like your wallet, ID, Earplugs, headphones, sleep mask, medicines, phone, laptop, sanitizer, etc. I also like to keep an empty water bottle in my bag so that I can fill it at a water fountain once I get through security. Not only does this help save money but it can also save time(no need to stop and wait in line to purchase a bottle before your flight). Just quickly fill with water at a water fountain and go.
Bring Versatile Clothing
Clothes that you can easily layer and use in different ways can help save space and keep you from overpacking. I love bringing a scarf with me everywhere I go since it can be used as a blanket, or scarf, or depending on size can be used as something to lay on outside.
Save Luggage Space
Rolling clothing tightly will help save space and can also help with keeping some clothing wrinkle-free BUT certain fabrics become wrinkly messes when rolled and may need to be folded instead. If you are staying at a hotel, most have an iron and ironing board to help keep your clothing wrinkle-free OR if you don’t have access to an iron/iron board, hang clothing while you shower. The steam will help release the wrinkles.
Keeping Clothing Fresh
Maybe it’s just me, but I am not a fan of the “travel” scent clothes can get while you are traveling.
Here are a few tricks I have learned to keep my clothes smelling fresh and staying clean as best as possible.
- Keep shoes in plastic bags
- Carry large Ziploc bags to keep soiled or wet clothing in
- Place 1-2 Dryer sheets in my suitcase to keep clothes smelling fresh
- Place all toiletries in sealed containers and in a bag that won’t leak onto clothing.
Additional tip:
Make sure you use products that are designed especially with travel in mind. I received this new set (carry-on luggage and duffle) from Calpak to review and I will say I am very impressed.
I have traveled enough to know that a piece of luggage that doesn’t have 360-degree spinner wheels is not for me. You don’t realize how important that feature is until you are in a rush or traveling with kids.
I also never had a duffle bag that slides onto the handle of the carry-on suitcase allowing me to be completely hands-free. What a difference that one “small” feature makes!
