7 Tips For A Fantastic Outdoor Picnic

| |

This time of year is perfect for spending time outdoors. Being outdoors is so relaxing and dining al fresco is one of my favorite things to do. Today, I am sharing tips for an outdoor picnic.

7 Tips for an Outdoor Picnic

Keep it Simple

Start with writing out a list of things you will need for your picnic. Check items off your list as you get them together. That way you won’t run into any issues with forgetting anything and you will have everything on hand.

Prep Beforehand

I alway recommend doing the bulk of the food prep in your kitchen before heading outdoors. That way when you get to your picnic location you won’t waste any time cleaning and slicing stuff.

Food items like, apples and pears, I slice RIGHT before serving them at the picnic. Otherwise they turn brown if they stay out to long and that’s not very pleasing to eat. But foods like berries, grapes, cheese, meats etc, I wash slice and clean beforehand.

Disposal Bags

Disposal bags can be a lightweight way to transport your food items. They will keep air away from your food items and make for a super easy clean Most importantly, they help save space in your picnic basket.

 Plastic Dishware

Using outdoor plasticware  will not only be easy to pack (typically lightweight) but will also help keep your outdoor fun safe. If you use glass or ceramic you run the risk of it breaking and someone getting hurt.

The Details

One of my recommendations to elevating or making a picnic feel special is to remember to pay attention to the details. Even if you are using plastic plates doesn’t mean you can’t add some fancier touches. Try using cloth napkins, a marble cutting board, and pretty serving pieces.

Where you Lay

If the ground is dry, you can use any type of blanket BUT if there may be a chance that it’s wet be sure to bring a tarp to lay down first OR a water repellent blanket.

Extra Items to Consider

Bringing a larger bag to use to throw away your items is always a good idea. It’s good to have if your blanket or tarp gets wet or muddy.

Bug spray is one item many of us overlook when we plan a picnic. You just never know when those pesky little guys are out and you wouldn’t want to ruin your plans because of them.

If you are looking to bring items that need to remain cold, consider using an insulated cooler bag or even dry ice packets like these.
