First 3 Days Wearing Adult Braces- Invisalign

“If you don’t do these things you may not have teeth by the time you are 60.” Not exactly what you want to hear when you visit your dentist.

Listen to your Doctor

Let me start by saying, for several years my dentist would tell me to wear a mouth guard at night but I foolishly choose not to listen. If your Dentist recommends wearing a night guard, pleasssse, WEAR IT! I can’t stress that enough. Your teeth are a critical part of your everyday life, you don’t want to be in a position, like me, if you can avoid it.

Professional vs Store

There is a difference between professional mouth guards and store bought. They seem the same but they really are not. Guess, the old saying,  “you get what you pay for” really stands true in this situation. Making your own impressions seems easy enough but you actually run the risk of worsening your bite. A poorly fitted mouth guard can cause dental damage that will require extensive repair.

Invisalign vs Braces

When I had to make the choice between Invisalign vs traditional braces it was a no brainer (to me). As a mom of 3, I don’t have very much time for anything. I needed the option with the least amount of interruption to my everyday life. Invisalign is better suited for my life. I can easily remove trays to eat whatever I want, they are “invisible”, and I can remove for photos which is really important for my job. Even though they are a bit more pricey I knew it would be the best fit for me. They range from $3500-$8000 in price.since I’m over the age of 19, my insurance wouldn’t cover any of it. BOO!!

First 3 days

It has been 3 days since I got my trays. The first day wasn’t fun at all. The trays felt super uncomfortable and I developed a lisp, which I guess is very common. My dentist encouraged me to keep talking so that it would help get rid of the lisp. She said it was just my tongue getting used to the trays. Also, my teeth feel sore but I think that’s because they are starting to shift. It will take a bit for me to get used to brushing and flossing after ever meal. That is probably the most annoying part.

I will be sharing more of my experience in a few weeks!! Stay tuned.

  1. Hi.
Im searching around for experiences with invisalign.
How do you feel about it now? Did the lisp go away? And how much do feel people can actually see it?
    Thanks.

    1. Hi Esther,
The lisp has gone away and I will say that the biggest set back for me is compliance. Its easy to take them out and forget to put them back in. You can see the trays in bright light easy…but other than that they are not too bad. For me its way better than metal brackets 🙂

  2. The invisalign treatment and retainers keep the teeth aligned and give them something to lean against so they cannot shift back into their original positions. This can especially be a problem for teenagers because their bones are not yet fully hardened. This experience of yours with invisalign was worth appreciation. Thanks.
