How To Spray Paint Over A Multicolored Nativity Set
This year I wanted to update my nativity set and make it more modern-ish and white. The colors of the set were throwing me off a bit and wanted the set to easily mix into my holiday decor regardless of the colors I used each year.
After seeing what a good blogger friend, Shelley (Crazy Wonderful Blog), did to her nativity set. It helped inspire me to get DIY-ing and try it out with my own set. Shelley used chalk paint for her nativity set which I think gives it a really nice finish. No gloss and really matte.
Since I didn’t have a ton of extra time to run to the store to get white chalk paint and because I can be super impatient(lol), I ended up using a can of white spray paint that I had on hand that could be used on wood, metal, and plastic.
Tips On How To Spray Paint Over A Multicolored Nativity Set
First Step
Be sure to wipe down the set and remove any dust or debris off of it so that paint can adhere to set well.
Second Step
If you are using spray paint, I recommend taking your project outdoors if possible or in a garage or basement. I took my project outdoors and used a kitchen garbage bag as a work surface.
Third Step
Lightly spray one side first and let it dry. You may have to do 1-2 more coats of paint before spraying the other side. Make sure you let each coat dry before doing another coat.
Fourth Step
Once the first side is dry do the other side and let it dry. Again, be sure to use light coats of spray paint since you don’t want to have any paint dry on the set “dripping”.
Fifth Step
Play around with the set and find a new home for it in your holiday decor.
