Backyard Patio Furniture Before and After
If you have been following me on social media, you probably have seen posts on our backyard project. For the last few months, we have been working to turn that area of our home into a more usable space. So excited to finally be sharing our backyard patio furniture reveal today.
Quick Overview of Backyard Project
We had been thinking about transforming our backyard for several years and the whole COVID thing finally gave us the push to just do it. It was a massive project. Actually, it was the biggest project we have ever worked on! We added a 25x 35 custom free form pool, spa, built-in fire pit, outdoor kitchen, and 1500sq feet of travertine pavers. We also added on to the structure of the house. The original patio roof was long, narrow, and didn’t give us much space to entertain. It felt cramped at times. We wanted to change a portion of the roof and make it bigger. Providing us more shade and space to entertain. I will share that particular project on another blog post and will include our outdoor kitchen as well.
In the meantime, going to share what we bought for outdoor furniture and how we decorated it. It was a lot more challenging to find outdoor furniture, in June and took weeks to ship to us since so much had been impacted by COVID. It did take a little patience and some extra planning but it all came together.
A great BIG thank you to Melissa Roberts Interiors for spending some time with me to go over the space and helping me with product selections. She helped me so much during our one-hour consultation to get focused and narrow things down. I highly recommend connecting with her if you need help with decor. Her consult fee, I feel, is very reasonable.
Backyard Patio Furniture
Ok, so let’s get back to the purpose of this post, our new patio furniture! I wanted the space to feel resort-like but also clean with a touch of modern. No loud prints, neutrals, and white cushions are what I had envisioned. I wanted the furniture to complement the existing brick on the house and the new patio roof, not compete with them.
Another important aspect of the furniture was that I needed most of the pieces to be versatile and easy to move around. NO heavy bulky furniture for me! Being able to move things around easily was super key for me. I like being able to rearrange things if we host a party etc.
Conversation Area
Having enough seating was big for me. I needed an area that would be a great spot for my family to sit and talk but if we wanted to lay down and look out into the backyard we could do that too. I was looking at day beds but for what I was looking for the day bed idea wasn’t going to work. This outdoor sofa and oversized ottomans were the perfect match for me!
It can be set it up like a true conversation area AND when I move the coffee table out of the way I can push the oversized ottomans up against the sofa to turn it into a daybed! This is a perfect spot to rest and even take naps under our fan. To finish off the look added a neutral area rug, greenery, and concrete side tables.
Outdoor Fire Pit
Around the outdoor fire pit, we kept it super simple with 4 chairs and lumbar pillows that coordinate well with the pillows on the conversation area sofa. I absolutely fell in love with these rope chairs. They are lightweight and so easy to move around. The actual seat part is oversized and wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about it but once I got them outside they are great! We cover these at night or when we know we won’t be using them to protect from rain, sun etc.
Bar Table
Our back patio had a wall that needed something to fill the space. We added a tv above but space below was bare. Whatever piece of furniture we bought for that space also had to serve as an extra “counter”. For now, I have it styled this way and love rolling up my towels and setting them in the “holes”. For a party, I could use the top of this for drinks or lay food out on. It’s a super unique piece and eye-catching.
Outdoor Table
Ssshhh….our outdoor table really isn’t an outdoor table. It’s from Pier 1 and because the store was closing down we got a great deal on the table and bench. We did use a sealer on both pieces to help protect it and we also bought a cover to extend the life of the table and bench as much as possible. The gray chairs were a TjMaxx find but I did find similar ones that I have linked below. The area rug is the same one we used in the conversation area. Wanted to tie to the two areas together. The concrete moss bowls were made by ME! I have linked ones you can buy that are very similar.
Ceiling Fans
The Havoc WeatherMax outdoor fan from Hunter Company is incredible. We have had many ceilings fans and these are hands down my favorite for a few reasons. Houston is hot!! Anything that is outdoors gets destroyed very easily. These fans are corrosion resistant, wet-rated(can be used in an outdoor space that is NOT covered and these fans push so much air! They are so quiet. My husband was super impressed by the blades and the technology that was used in these fans. Their sleek design can be incorporated into most spaces easily. Plus the keep us nice and cool and relaxed. While eating a meal as a family or relaxing on the “daybed”. They also come in different colors too.
(**In complete transparency Hunter Fan Company sponsored the two fans under our Patio extension. We ended up loving them so much we bought a third one to install above the conversation area of our patio)
Areas to Relax
When we designed our pool deck I wanted two separate areas to relax on either side of the pool. If John and I wanted to hang on one side we could and kids on the other. Not sure if you can sense after all this but relaxation and resort feel are what the goal was throughout this whole planning process. So we used 4 lounge chairs (put two on one side and two on the other side). I bought the cushions separately at the store, AT HOME. I wanted thick cushions so that it would feel like a squishy bed 🙂 I love how they look and I can always dress them up with a rolled-up towel or a pillow.
