Roasted Garlic Hummus Recipe by: Hurried Hostess

I have always been a big believer that a “meal is not just a meal“. “It’s a way we can contact with one another on an intimate level“. A wonderful way to create beautiful memories with those we love the most. Coming from an Italian-American family, the table has always been a big part of my life. I was raised to sit, savor, connect and enjoy.

When I first got married, and my 3 kids were young, sitting together for dinner time was never an issue. BUT I have to admit, in the last few years, it has been challenging to get my whole family to sit around the table for dinner.

With work, events, sports, social engagements, etc. my family is pulled in many different directions throughout the week. Often we are eating our meals in the car or off our kitchen island. More of grab and go type of meal. We do our best to at least keep our Sunday “dinner” tradition in our home and the kids always love it. You can see how it changes them when we all sit together and take the time to be with each other.

So now we have this Covid-19 thing happening in our country. And yes, it has been causing some disruptions in our lives BUT on the positive side, it has also stopped us in our tracks to remind us of what is important. Our loved ones. This national quarantine is helping to bring many people “back to the basics” in some ways.

This is why I wanted to share a creative way to throw an indoor garden party for your family. That will hopefully help inspire you to get out of the rut of worry and focus on the right now, with your precious loved ones.

And how by turning an ordinary meal into an experience can really help brighten and lift spirits for yourself and your family during these uncharted times.

Creative Way To Throw An Indoor Garden Party (for your family)

Ok, so let’s be honest here. With schools and businesses closing we may be stuck indoors for a while. This may be a great time to put a little effort into a meal and make it something fun and light-hearted. A wonderful way for your family to decompress from all the quick life changes we have all experienced in the last week or so.

So here is what I recommend on how to get started.

Creative Way To Throw An Indoor Garden Party

Action list on a creative way to throw an indoor garden party (for your family):

  • Collect all items you currently have in the house that would fit the theme, in this case, its garden party. (turn this into a fun scavenger hunt activity for the kids).
  • Use fruit or anything you may have in your fridge. (get kids involved and ask them what they would normally find in a garden).
  • Bring some of the outdoors inside (like herbs, plants, flowers, use bar carts or stands you already have in the house to display).
  • Make it fancy. Layer your dishes and use cloth napkins.
  • Add elements you normally wouldn’t like candles or garlands
  • Play music!! It’s scientifically proven that music has an amazing impact on mood and health.
  • And remember it doesn’t have to be “perfect” looking, let kids take over and have fun with it.

Next dinner “party”: have kids select another theme and plan around their idea with things you already have at home.

Have to be honest, I wasn’t originally planning on sharing this post the way that I have here. It was going to be more of a “party” planning post. But in light of everything that is happening around us I realized that many of us parents have got to do the best we can with what we have. We have a responsibility to alleviate the stress our child(ren) may be feeling right now.

And with a little bit of effort, time and creativity you can all share a fun meal together that can help you think of other things besides our nation’s current status.

I really do hope this post has inspired you in some way to think differently about the ordinary in our lives and helping to make them a little bit “extra” special right now.

Much love to each and every one of you right now. My heart goes out to all medical personnel, along with everyone that doesn’t have a job that allows them to work from home. Many blessings to these true heroes in our communities!
