Gal Pal Fun Day:Creating Beautiful Flower Arrangements

What’s more fun than spending a day with your gal pals? How about spending a day creating beautiful flower arrangements together! Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion, looking for a creative outlet, or just in need of some quality bonding time, crafting flower arrangements with your friends can be a fantastic way to relax, reconnect, and add a touch of beauty to your lives. In this blog post, I will provide you with some fun and easy tips to make your Gal Pal Fun Day a memorable one as you create stunning floral masterpieces together.

Location and Supplies

For this gathering our friend Nicole set up a great day for all of us at The Flower Studio by AP . It’s a new Houston,TX studio (opened in 2023) that offers florals for weddings, parties, corporate events, birthdays, special occassions, and also floral classes. Their studio is a beautiful intimate location for a group floral arranging adventure. The staff at the floral studio took care of all the details for our visit. Along with setting up all our stations and providing everyone’s supplies.

Here’s a list of items they provided for us:

• Fresh flowers (a variety of colors, shapes, and sizes)
• Pumpkin Vases
• Floral foam “Oasis”
• Floral shears
• Aprons

Choose a Theme

Picking a theme for your flower arrangements can add a creative twist to your Gal Pal Fun Day. You could go with a specific color scheme, celebrate a particular season or holiday, or simply let each friend choose their own theme. For this particular event, we all made an autumn themed floral arrangement using a pumpkin vase along with similar flowers.

Work on Composition

To create beautiful flower arrangements, we learned that its important to pay attention to composition. Start by selecting a base flower to cover up the “oasis” and then add complementary blooms around it. Vary the heights and angles of your flowers to create depth and balance. Including a showstopper (we used roses), smaller blossoms (like carnations), and some cascading elements to achieve a well-balanced look.

Trim and Prep Your Flowers

Before arranging your flowers, remove any excess foliage and thorns. Cut the stems at an angle to help the flowers absorb water better. If possible its a good idea to trim the stems underwater to prevent air from getting into the vascular system of the flowers, which can cause wilting.

Use Floral Foam

To keep your flowers in place and looking perfect, use floral foam in your vase. The foam that we called “oasis” provide stability and helps to maintain the desired arrangement shape. Just make sure the foam is saturated with water before you start arranging.

Work Together and Share Ideas

One of the best parts of a Gal Pal Fun Day is the camaraderie. Encouraging each other throughout the process and seeing how we all created different arrangements using the same florals. We also all learned new flower arranging techniques and how to create designs we hadn’t even thought of on our own before.
