How to Create a DIY Flower Bar for Your Next Party
Recently, I was a co-host in planning a baby shower for a friend of mine and the theme was wildflowers. The goal was to create a space that felt whimsical and where guests could leave the event with flowers as a party favor, so a DIY flower bar was the way to go. Whether you’re hosting a birthday bash, a bridal shower, baby shower, or just a fun girls’ night in, a flower bar brings a touch of creativity and beauty to the mix.
Here’s your guide on how to create a DIY flower bar!

Step 1: Choose a Location
The first step in creating a flower bar is deciding where to set up the station. Ideally, you’ll want a table or a countertop that’s easy for guests to access. For our party, we set up our flower bar in the corner of the room. A beautiful garden table or a picnic table under a tree would set a lovely scene if you’re hosting outdoors. Inside, you could use a kitchen island or dining table, and don’t forget to cover the surface with a fun floral tablecloth or some butcher paper for a rustic touch.

Step 2: Gather Your Supplies
Now for the fun part—shopping for flowers! Here’s a list of what you’ll need:
We ended up buying our flowers from Trader Joe’s since they have a wonderful variety of florals to select from.
- A variety of fresh flowers: Think color, texture, and variety. Some great options include:
- Roses (classic and elegant)
- Sunflowers (bright and cheerful)
- Peonies (soft and romantic)
- Tulips (simple and clean)
- Lilies (fragrant and stunning)
- Eucalyptus or greenery (for filler)
- Cutting tools: Scissors or small flower shears for trimming the stems.
- Ribbon or twine: To tie bouquets together
Step 3: Organize the Flowers
Once your flowers are in hand, arrange them by type and color to create an easy flow for your guests. You want to give them enough variety to be creative but not overwhelm them with options. For example:
- Have one section for larger blooms (roses, sunflowers, peonies)
- Another for smaller flowers or fillers (lavender, baby’s breath, greenery)
- A section for foliage or decorative items (eucalyptus, ferns, and herbs like rosemary)
If you’re feeling fancy, you can even display a few pre-arranged small bouquets as inspiration for your guests. Make it Instagram-worthy with a few creative floral signs or labels!

Step 4: Set Up a Flower Wrapping Station
Once your guests have put together their bouquets, they’ll need a way to wrap them up. Have a wrapping station with:
- Cellophane paper: For a sleek, modern look.
- Brown kraft paper: For a more rustic, boho vibe.
- Twine or ribbon: To tie up the bouquets with a cute bow.
- Stickers or tags: Add a personalized touch with a name or a fun message on the flower wrapping.

Step 5: Have Fun!
Ultimately, the flower bar is about having fun, being creative, and celebrating with friends. Whether your guests are arranging bouquets for themselves or just admiring each other’s creations, it’s a great way to bring people together and add a bit of beauty to your event.
So, there you have it! A DIY flower bar that’s equal parts beautiful and fun. Whether you’re a seasoned event planner or just someone looking to add a little whimsy to your party, this idea is sure to bring joy to everyone involved.
Happy flower arranging!
