Lake Geneva,WI has been a tourist destination for many decades. This unique lakeside resort city, in the southeastern part of Wisconsin, has been called the Newport, Rhode Island of the west. It’s an alluring destination for those looking to relax, explore nature, and indulge in some local culture.


How To Get To Lake Geneva, WI
Milwaukee airport is the closest airport to Lake Geneva. It’s approximately 40 miles away which makes it a great option to fly in and out of. If you live in Chicago, you can also travel to this charming lake side city by Amtrak train.
Things To Do In Lake Geneva, WI
Explore the lake
Geneva Lake is a great place to enjoy water sports such as boating, swimming, and fishing. You can rent a boat or take a tour on one of the many tour boats that operate on the lake. The lake is about 2.5 miles wide 7.5 miles length wise. And at 142 feet, is known as the second deepest lake in Wisconsin. I highly recommend experiencing a mail boat tour. This is a boat tour unlike any other. You can watch how mail jumpers jump off the boat until individuals docks to deliver residents mail. Super unique activity to do. These tours typically run from June-Sept.


Riviera Ballroom and Plaza
This picturesque lakeside venue was listed on the national register of historic places by the department of interior on April 3, 1986. The building was built in 1932 over the water and has hosted many weddings and events. The plaza’s Angel fountain is located in the front of building which makes it a great spot to grab an instagram worthy photo.

Visit a historic observatory
Yerkes Observatory is home to the world’s largest refracting telescope, it’s 63 feet! The observatory is a great piece of science history. It’s known as one of the most significant science locations in the U.S of it’s time for its research, discoveries, and education. This iconic observatory’s sits on 50 acres. I recommend spending some time outdoors at the historic property. Pack a picnic and blanket to take in all it’s beauty. The observatory offers tours.


Fun fact: When Albert Einstein traveled to the United States, he only wanted to see two things, Niagara Falls and this observatory.
Golf Lover
The Grand Geneva Resort Golf Course is a must visit for any golf enthusiast. The two 18-hole golf courses are beautiful and have challenging layouts. The well manicured greens and fairways are what many from all over come to experience. The signature feature of these courses are the stunning views of the surrounding countryside, including the nearby lake and rolling hills. Lessons and rentals are available.

Adventure Seeker
Lake Geneva Zip Line and Adventures offers a thrilling and unique way to see the city from a different perspective. The zip line takes you on a journey through the treetops, providing stunning views of the lake and surrounding landscape. The guides are knowledgeable, friendly, and making the experience even more enjoyable. For someone like myself, who has a fear of heights, the guides did an incredible reassuring me all a long the way. Be sure to wear closed toe shoes.


Lake Geneva Scooter Tours are a fun and convenient way to explore the city. Each rider gets a training class prior to hitting the road to get familiar and comfortable with the scooter. From my experience, the scooters are easy to operate.The tour takes you through the streets of Lake Geneva, allowing you to see the city in a whole new way. The tour guide provide great tips and recommendations on where to go and what to see. Depending on the size of group your guide may allow for the group to stop at places of interest. So be sure to ask beforehand.

Go for a walk/hike
Lake Geneva is surrounded by beautiful hiking trails that offer stunning views of the lake, gorgeous estates, parks, beaches, and the surrounding countryside. Some popular trails include the Geneva Lake Shore Path and the Big Foot Beach State Park. Tristan Crist Magic Theater is an intimate and cozy theater. Making it the perfect setting for a night of magic. The performers, including Tristan Crist himself, were all talented and captivating. The tricks they performed were entertaining. I especially enjoyed the interactive elements of the show, where audience members were brought up on stage to participate in the magic.

Relax at a spa
Lake Geneva is home to many spas that offer a variety of treatments and services, such as massages, facials, and body treatments. A popular option is found in the Grand Geneva Resort. Lake Geneva is home to many excellent restaurants and amazing chefs that bring global influence to the area. Some popular dining options include:
Popeye’s on the Lake – This casual waterfront restaurant is a great spot for a casual lunch or dinner. The menu features a variety of seafood options, as well as sandwiches and burgers. The outdoor seating area is a great spot to enjoy the views of the lake.


The Geneva ChopHouse – This classic American steakhouse is a great spot for a special occasion dinner. The menu features a variety of steak options, as well as seafood and other classic. You don’t have to stay on property to eat here. Be sure to make a reservation and non resort guests can valet their vehicle.


Pier 290-This waterfront restaurant was opened about 9 years ago and offers a great view of the lake, comfort food and delicious seafood options. The atmosphere is casual with a relaxed vibe. Great place to grab drinks and share appetizers with friends or family.


Crafted-Located inside The Ridge Hotel. This Italian restaurant prides itself on creating modern Italian classic dishes using premium ingredients and sourcing as much as possible through local farms. They offer selections like authentic pasta dishes, pizzas, and seafood options. The atmosphere feels business professional but is not stuffy.

Sopra– This elegant American bistro is located on main street in Lake Geneva.The menu is diverse and offers a wide range of dishes, from pasta and seafood to steak and vegetarian options. The portions are generous and the flavors are bold and delicious. The ambiance is elegant and cozy, making it a perfect spot for a romantic dinner or a special occasion.

The Flat Iron Tap-Super casual small restaurant and bar. The rustic restaurant has an industrial feel. The menu has a variety of options including sandwiches, gourmet burgers, wings, and appetizers. The food is delicious and the portions are generous. The restaurant has an outdoor seating area. Great spot for a casual meal with friends or for a beer lover.


Topsy Turvey Brewery– Located in an old historic church turned brewery. The brewery offers a great selection of craft beers that will make you wonder why you ever drank anything else. Each craft beer has a fun name after different things that have happened in Wisconsin. Like historical places, inventions, tourist attractions and other fun things. The brewery has a fun, bright, and casual atmosphere. Offers live music and events. Also has a beer garden.

The Hunt Club Steakhouse-Is a must visit for any steak and wine lover looking for a delicious meal.The restaurant’s unique feature is it’s use of locally-sourced ingredients, which give the dishes a fresh and flavorful taste. The menu is constantly changing to reflect the seasons. The service is top-notch, and the atmosphere is elegant yet comfortable. Be sure to try the cast iron skillet of warm spinach and artichoke.

Be sure to check out the Geneva Chop House for a meal. Its an open kitchen concept restaurant and its seasonal menu is one not to be missed.

Maxwell Mansion
This historic boutique hotel is located in the heart of Lake Geneva and is known for its elegant, Victorian-style architecture. The rooms are cozy and charming, with plenty of period details and antiques. The hotel also has a small garden and a parlor for guests to enjoy. They also have a below-ground speakeasy. The Ridge Hotel
This hotel is located on the shores of Lake Geneva and offers stunning views of the lake and surrounding countryside. The rooms are modern and sleek, with plenty of natural light and balconies overlooking the lake. My room was on the main floor and I had a sliding glass door that lend straight to the pool. The hotel also has a fitness center and a restaurant onsite called, Crafted.
