Meet Teresa McKinney from Delectatio Wines
I have always been intrigued by women in the wine industry. How they started, entertaining tips, and advice for others who may want to get into the industry. This year I had the incredible opportunity to interview Teresa McKinney from Delectatio Wines.
Interview Q & A
When did your love for wine begin?
“Not sure why, but I tried to make wine when I was about 8 years old by squeezing grapes into a clean jar and covering it with a balloon to catch the gas. Not sure who gave me the idea but it didn’t end well. 😂”
The best way to introduce someone to wine who typically prefers beer or mixed drinks?
“Be persistent in trying different wines and you will happen upon a variety or style you like. The best place to do that is at a restaurant or wine bar that offers different wine flights. You can try multiple wines in very small portions without getting stuck with an entire glass of something you don’t like.”
Favorite wine to serve at a party or to give as a hostess gift?
“Champagne! It always sets a festive mood and I love it!”
Sometimes people get intimated with wine at restaurants, any pointers for newbies or even seasoned wine drinkers?
“Remember at it’s most basic it is just a beverage. Everyone has different levels of knowledge about wine and there is no shame in asking questions. A good sommelier is happy to discuss what you might like and what amount you want to spend without making you feel intimidated. There are good bottles at all price points so don’t hesitate to mention your limit.”
Any wine etiquette/tips you would like to share?
“Don’t over chill your white wines! You can experience a broader range of flavors if the wine isn’t icy cold.”
Where can my readers find/purchase your wines?
“A few places my wines can be found in The Woodlands area are Schellesi’s, The Butler House, Grotto and Genuwine.”
Thank you to Teresa for taking the time to answer my questions. So fun to learn more from you!
